SEN Teaching Assistant - ASD Primary School

Location: Croydon

Contract: Full-time (Monday - Friday)

Start Date: September

Salary: Competitive (depending on experience)

School Type: Primary SEN School (specialising in Autism Spectrum Disorder)


We are currently seeking a compassionate and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join a primary school in Morden that caters for pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This is a full-time, long-term position supporting students with a range of needs associated with ASD.


About the Role:

You will work closely with teachers and other support staff to provide tailored assistance to pupils, helping to create a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment. Your role will involve supporting academic progress as well as social and emotional development.

Key Responsibilities:

Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis or in small groups


Assisting with classroom activities and lesson delivery


Promoting positive behaviour and emotional regulation


Helping implement individual learning plans (EHCPs where applicable)


Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and external professionals


Encouraging communication, independence, and life skills

Requirements:

Experience working with children with ASD or in a SEN environment


A patient, nurturing, and proactive approach


Excellent communication and teamwork skills


Ability to build strong, supportive relationships with pupils


An Enhanced DBS Certificate (on the Update Service or willing to obtain one)


Desirable:

Experience with communication tools such as PECS or Makaton


Understanding of sensory needs and behaviour management strategies
