Occupational Health Practice Nurse
Location: Dagenham
Hours: 40 hours per week (8 hour shifts on a rotating pattern, covering days and nights)
Salary: Up to £48,000

A respected and forward-thinking Occupational Health provider is seeking a confident and motivated Occupational Health Practice Nurse to join its established clinical team in Dagenham. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team of Occupational Health Nurses, Doctors, Technicians and Advisors who work collaboratively to promote and maintain good health in the workplace. The service delivers high quality, risk based health surveillance, wellbeing initiatives, health screening and case management. With a culture built on trust, respect and shared purpose, the team is committed to manageable workloads, clinical autonomy and long-term staff satisfaction.

Role Overview

The Occupational Health Practice Nurse will play a central role in delivering a full range of Occupational Health services on-site, ensuring compliance, clinical excellence and a seamless experience for clients and employees. Responsibilities include:

  • Delivering proactive Occupational Health services in line with relevant legislation.
  • Preventing adverse health effects from workplace activities through evidence based practice.
  • Ensuring accurate recording and sign off of all clinic visits.
  • Providing treatment services, including emergency call outs.
  • Maintaining competency checklists and regular sign off with Clinical Management.
  • Working closely with the Management Team and Lead Occupational Health Advisor to maintain site insight and governance.
  • Attending safety walks, 1:1 meetings and clinical reviews.
  • Delivering fitness to work assessments, health surveillance, Executive Medicals and Health MOTs.
  • Offering mental health support via appropriate signposting and effective use of clinic space.
  • Supporting wellbeing initiatives and keeping departmental notice boards updated.
  • Providing regular updates to support management information reporting.
  • Ensuring practice aligns with NMC regulations and contractual codes of conduct.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

The ideal candidate will be a proactive, organised and clinically confident nurse who thrives in a varied setting. They will bring:

  • Experience as a Practice Nurse.
  • Previous Occupational Health experience (desirable but not essential).
  • Acute nursing experience or exposure to health surveillance (desirable).
  • The ability to work 8 hour rotating shifts as part of a 24 hour service.
  • Strong self-management skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • A forward thinking approach, open to change and capable of leading by example.
  • Strong organisational skills to manage a flexible and dynamic workload.
  • Competence in IT systems including Microsoft Office, email and Occupational Health software.

Qualifications

  • Registered General Nurse (NMC).
  • A full, valid driving licence.
  • An OH qualification is not essential.
  • Previous Occupational Health Nurse or Advisor experience is required.
