Overview

A well-established organisation within the heavy engineering and quarrying sector is currently seeking a Heavy Plant Engineer to support operations across multiple sites in the Darlington area. This is a confidential vacancy, and all enquiries and applications will be handled with the strictest discretion.

The role involves servicing, maintaining, and repairing a variety of heavy plant equipment used in aggregate processing and material handling. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated and experienced engineer with the ability to work independently and respond to breakdowns efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine maintenance and inspections on heavy plant machinery
  • Diagnose and repair faults in mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns to minimise downtime
  • Perform on-site repairs and workshop-based servicing
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health and safety regulations
  • Keep detailed service records and maintenance logs
  • Liaise with external suppliers when sourcing parts or specialist support

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a similar heavy plant or mobile equipment maintenance role
  • Strong understanding of hydraulic systems, diesel engines, and electrical diagnostics
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plant Maintenance or equivalent (or time-served)
  • Ability to work unsupervised and under pressure
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable Qualifications and Skills

  • Familiarity with crushing and screening equipment
  • Welding and fabrication skills
  • City & Guild qualification or Quarries safety Passport - (able to offer in house)
