Belmont Recruitment are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Independent Living Support Worker to join a County Durham Local Authority on a temporary basis, working 37 hours per week. The role supports Lifeline clients to live safely and independently in their own homes, helping to promote wellbeing, reduce social isolation, and create safer environments through the use of assistive technology, emergency response, and practical support.

Main Duties

  • Respond promptly to emergency calls, carrying out dynamic risk assessments and providing emergency assistance including First Aid, CPR, and the use of defibrillators
  • Deliver support that maintains dignity, independence, and safety within the home environment
  • Attend to issues such as equipment faults, home security, and fire or smoke alarm activations
  • Keep accurate and detailed records of all calls, visits, and actions to ensure seamless service delivery
  • Work collaboratively with Housing Tenancy Management and partner agencies to ensure customers receive appropriate care and support
  • Promote sheltered and extra care housing schemes, conduct property viewings, and assist with tenancy sign-ups
  • Complete annual client reviews, checking equipment, updating records, and assessing changing needs
  • Support community engagement initiatives that help reduce isolation and promote wellbeing
  • Follow all health and safety policies, reporting incidents and hazards while maintaining a proactive approach to risk management

Essential Criteria

  • Experience supporting vulnerable clients, ideally within housing, care, or emergency response environments
  • Strong communication skills with a calm, empathetic, and professional approach
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and experience working within relevant frameworks
  • Excellent organisational and IT skills with strong attention to detail
  • Understanding of confidentiality and data protection principles
  • Ability to travel independently and meet the physical requirements of the role
