Job role: Formulation Development Scientist

Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 pa + 6% non contractual annual bonus

Hours: Hybrid, 37.5 hours pw, flex time available

Location: Dartford, Kent

The role of Formulation Development Scientist is a hands-on role focused on supporting regional innovation, screening new product ideas, as well as creating applications data for existing products. The role will report to the Technical Director and work with the regional field force to support customer projects. The Formulation Development Scientist will develop and test formulations, assess new materials and excipients, develop novel formulations and evaluate all aspects of solid oral dosage form development including core and coating systems.

Formulation Development Scientist desirable and essential skills/experience:

Key Skills

Formulation Development

- ability to rapidly develop solid oral dosage forms, including tablets and capsules, and create prototype formulas that can scale from lab to production.

Technical Support

- provide technical applications support to customers and regional Technical Managers.

Research and Innovation

- engage in innovation activities, explore new materials and applications data opportunities, and support prototype development activities.

Analytical Skills

- understand and safely operate equipment typically used in solid oral dosage form development, and analytical equipment used to characterise the prototype formulas developed.

Communication

- strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing technical project reports, presenting findings, and assisting in running training events.

Lab Management

- experience in ensuring lab equipment is calibrated and maintained, keeping high standards of work and housekeeping, and recording data in an official laboratory notebook.

Safety

- to carry out all duties in line with the Company’s QA Policy and Safety Guidelines. Taking reasonable care for your own health and safety and consider the health and safety of others who may be affected by your activity.

The Formulation Development Scientist should have

- normal colour vision

- science related qualifications, BSc (food, material science, or equivalent - chemistry, pharma) or higher

- 5-7 years experience in solid oral dosage form development with material science

- Hands on lab experience formulating for pharma or nutra solid oral dosage forms application

- Understanding safe handling of active substances
