Mechanical Project Engineer/ Senior Projects Engineer with rolling stock experience required to lead projects across passenger services for a growing rail service provider.

Situation

Ford & Stanley are partnered with a rail service provider to recruit a Projects Engineer / Senior Projects Engineer to lead the delivery of engineering design, reengineering, and installation projects across their passenger rolling stock portfolio.

With a growing pipeline of modification and refurbishment programmes, this role will be central to ensuring technical excellence, customer satisfaction, and on-time delivery. You’ll manage a small team of design engineers, interface with clients and stakeholders, and support on-site installation teams to resolve design challenges. The successful candidate will be expected to take ownership of deliverables, apply engineering best practices, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the clients’ engineering services.

Candidate Specifications

  • Background in rolling stock engineering — interiors, mechanical, or electrical systems
  • Experience managing design teams and delivering technical projects
  • Proficient in 2D/3D CAD software (SolidWorks or equivalent)
  • Strong understanding of engineering change documentation and compliance standards
  • Degree in engineering (mechanical or electrical) desired; Chartered status desirable. HND also accepted with relevant work experience. 
  • Member of a professional body (IET or IMechE) preferred
  • Excellent organisational, interpersonal, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Commercially aware and confident working in customer-facing environments
  • Able to work independently and prioritise a busy workload with attention to detail
  • Positive, proactive attitude and a collaborative mindset
