Your new companyOur client, a leading civil engineering and groundworks contractor based in Derby, is seeking an Estimator to join their pre-contract team. This multi-accredited organisation operates across a multitude of sectors, including the commercial, industrial and energy industries, and offers excellent opportunities for career progression and hands-on professional development. They boast an impressive list of high-profile clientele delivering projects valued at up to £20m, and due to continued success, they are looking to onboard an Estimator to join their business. This is a full-time permanent position based out of their Derby office with occasional site travel and the option for flexible working.Your new roleAs Estimator, you will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Preparing and submitting tenders from first principles, including obtaining quotations for subcontract work, materials and plant, and compiling programmes
- Liaising with clients to ensure a full understanding of their requirements is obtained
- Assisting in checking details of order and preparing documentation for, and attending, handover meetings with the contracts department if tenders are successful
- Assisting junior staff when required to ensure competence in the duties required of them
- Representing the company at all times and promoting good relations with clients (and their representatives), subcontractors and the general public
- Conducting site visits to determine factors that could influence the cost of undertaking works.
What you'll need to succeedIn order to be successful, you must have:
- Experience estimating within the Civil Engineering and/or Construction industries
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Ability to estimate from first principles
- Good understanding of industry software such as Microsoft Project
- Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
- Full UK driving licence.
