The Role: Transport Planning Manager

We are looking for a dynamic Transport Planning Manager to lead our planning team in delivering best-in-class transport solutions. This role is vital in ensuring the efficient, cost-effective, and compliant movement of goods while maintaining outstanding customer service. Working closely with warehousing, customer service, and operational teams, you'll drive continuous improvement and help shape the future of our transport operations.

Salary :£40 000-£45 000(depending on experience)

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning & Optimisation
  • Develop and maintain efficient transport plans and schedules to meet service-level expectations.

  • Optimise delivery routes using planning software to reduce fuel costs, emissions, and travel times.

Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of transport planners.

  • Set clear goals and monitor KPIs to drive high performance and team growth.

  • Conduct performance reviews, training, and support personal development.

  • Manage team absence and conduct Return to Work and Bradford Factor meetings.

Data, Analysis & Reporting
  • Monitor and enhance KPIs including delivery times, cost efficiency, and vehicle utilisation.

  • Produce regular reports and analysis to support senior management in decision-making.

Cost Control & Vendor Management
  • Monitor account-level budgets and identify cost-saving opportunities.

  • Negotiate with third-party logistics providers to achieve the best value and service.

Compliance & Safety
  • Work with compliance and operational managers to ensure all transport activity meets legal and safety regulations.

  • Stay informed on industry regulations and adapt processes accordingly.

Customer Service & Collaboration
  • Act as the escalation point for delivery planning issues.

  • Collaborate closely with internal departments to ensure smooth and timely operations.

Technology & Innovation
  • Utilise and enhance Transport Management Systems (TMS), route planning, and GPS tools.

  • Champion and implement new technologies that improve efficiency and service delivery.


Hours of Work

Monday to Friday 08:30 - 18:00


Experience:

  • At least 5 years in transport planning/logistics, with 2+ years in a leadership role.

  • Solid experience with TMS software and route optimisation tools.

  • Strong operational understanding of transport planning in a fast-paced environment.

Skills
  • Excellent leadership and team-building abilities.

  • Strong analytical and numerical skills; able to turn data into action.

  • Effective communication and stakeholder management.

  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to make data-driven decisions.

Qualifications
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.

  • Professional certifications such as CILT or CPC in Transport Management (desirable).

  • External training on TMS or routing tools (advantageous).
