FPGA Engineer / Senior FPGA Engineer - All Experience Levels

My client is a leader in advanced security technology, designing high-integrity systems where absolute reliability is essential. Their mission is simple - to push boundaries, exceed expectations, and deliver excellence. With a strong focus on innovative and disruptive security technologies across software engineering and microelectronics, this is a place where your work truly matters.

About the Role

Whether you're building the foundations of your FPGA career or are already a seasoned engineer, this is a brilliant opportunity to join a collaborative, forward-thinking team working on cutting-edge FPGA solutions for critical systems.

You will contribute to the architecture and development of FPGA systems, take part in requirements capture, design, and verification, and play a key role in developing modules and interfaces across a multidisciplinary environment. Senior engineers will naturally take on more leadership, ownership, and mentoring responsibilities, while those earlier in their career will be supported to grow and develop quickly.

You will also have the chance to explore emerging FPGA technologies and design tools, with ongoing opportunities for learning and professional development.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on your experience, you will:

  • Architect, design, and develop FPGA systems for new high-reliability products.

  • Lead or contribute to FPGA module development.

  • Define and coordinate interfaces for internal and external components.

  • Create and maintain test-bench modules to validate correct operation.

  • Work closely with software, hardware, and systems teams to solve complex engineering challenges.

  • Keep up to date with the latest FPGA technologies and design methods.

Skills and Experience

We are open to engineers at every level - from early career through to senior specialists. Experience in the following areas is beneficial:

  • VHDL for FPGA development (essential for mid-level/senior, foundational understanding for junior applicants).

  • TCL scripting and ModelSim / Questasim.

  • Familiarity with current FPGA and SoC technologies, ideally including Quartus.

  • A degree or postgraduate qualification in a relevant STEM subject.

  • Ability to produce clear, high-quality design artefacts.

  • Experience with version control systems such as GIT, SVN, or CVS.

Personal Attributes

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • A proactive approach to solving problems.

  • Commitment to producing high-quality work.

  • Ability to manage your own tasks and time effectively.

  • A sense of ownership and responsibility when tackling challenges.

Desirable Skills

(Useful but not required - ideal for more experienced applicants)

  • Experience with Vivado, Libero, or additional Quartus tool chains.

  • Knowledge of Verilog, SystemVerilog, or cryptographic algorithms.

  • Exposure to UVM / OSVVM or Assertion Based Verification.

  • Understanding of networking protocols (Layer 2/3), USB 3.2, or NVMe.

  • Background in high-speed or ultra-low-power FPGA technologies.

  • Familiarity with Redhat Linux.

Conditions

  • You must be a British Citizen and eligible to obtain and retain unconditional DV clearance.

Salary

£30k - 75k DOE + benefits
(All experience levels encouraged to apply.)
