We are seeking a Safer Streets Warden on behalf of the local council to contribute to the deterrence and reduction of crime and anti-social behaviour in Thetford Town Centre and targeted residential localities. This role involves providing a visible, uniformed presence, building strong community relationships, and ensuring public safety through engagement and low-level enforcement.
Day-to-day of the role:- Conduct regular high-visibility foot patrols during days, evenings, and weekends within Thetford Town Centre and other targeted neighbourhoods, predominantly working in pairs.
- Provide a reassuring presence, ready to assist the public in distress or fear for their safety, and complete risk assessments on victims and witnesses of anti-social behaviour.
- Offer advice, information, and support to residents, businesses, and visitors on how to report community safety concerns and incidents of anti-social behaviour.
- Provide crime prevention advice to community members.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with community groups, voluntary organisations, businesses, and internal and external stakeholders, including the police.
- Regularly update the ASB and Enforcement teams and contribute to partnership working with external agencies such as the Operational Partnership Team and Safer Neighbour Team to ensure effective information sharing.
- Gather evidence to support action against those committing crime, environmental crime, or anti-social behaviour, including collecting statements, keeping contemporaneous records, and attending court if required.
- Experience in community engagement or a similar role, with a focus on safety and public interaction.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage positively with a diverse range of people.
- Knowledge of or experience in handling low-level enforcement activities and issuing fixed penalty notices.
- Familiarity with using body cams, hi-viz and stab-proof vests, and other safety equipment linked to CCTV control rooms.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as part of a rota.
You must have a full driving licence and car (mileage paid)
