Manufacturing Controls Engineer
Desford – 4 days on site
18 Month Contract
Afternoon shift – Mon-Wed 16:30–02:30, Thu 16:30–02:00
Travel: Up to 5% within the UK
Up to £23.70 PAYE plus holiday and pension / £32.50ph umbrella rate.
We’re looking for an Engineer, ideally with a hands-on background in maintaining control systems, (preferably using Siemens PLC/HMI software and/or Siemens/Mitsubishi PLC software) to identify opportunities for implementing automation and robotics in our client’s busy manufacturing environment.
You will have the opportunity to build on your current skills by working with a variety of different functional areas, allowing you to develop your understanding of the wider business requirements. This would suit someone with a Maintenance and/or Assembly Automation.
As a Manufacturing Engineer – Controls, you will:
- Identify opportunities for automation and robotics and lead implementation.
- Use Siemens or Mitsubishi PLC/HMI software to diagnose production issues and standardize legacy systems.
- Proactively assess business opportunities, prepare impact analysis, and justify capital investment to senior stakeholders.
- Manage projects end-to-end: planning, budgeting, resourcing, and delivery of NPI or improvement projects in Technology, Efficiency, or Quality.
- Develop manufacturing process solutions, using tools such as process flows, PFMEAs, and control plans, while promoting Lean and quality principles.
- Monitor project health and manage issues to achieve People, Quality, Velocity, and Cost targets.
- Define equipment specifications and installation requirements, ensuring safety and suitability for manufacturing.
- Work with suppliers and internal teams to ensure timely delivery and successful implementation.
- Coach and mentor team members on standardised processes and procedures.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to drive Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and best manufacturing practices.
Qualifications & Experience Needed:
- Extensive experience in manufacturing processes, project management, and safety compliance.
- Expert-level skills in judgment and decision-making, manufacturing problem resolution, and driving performance.
- Knowledge and experience in Lean Manufacturing principles.
Desirable:
- Experience with building/construction equipment assembly, Siemens Teamcenter, quality problem-solving tools (8D, 5 Why, Fishbone), and Six Sigma project leadership.
