Salary: £34,003 per annum (Professional Services Grade 8)

Wiltshire College & University Centre have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Safeguarding Lead to join our team.

Senior Safeguarding Lead - The Role:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced safeguarding professional to play a pivotal role in leading and shaping safeguarding provision across Wiltshire College & University Centre. Reporting to the Director of Safeguarding and Student Services, you will be responsible for the effective leadership and management of our Campus Safeguarding Leads and Student Mentor for Looked After Children, ensuring an outstanding and robust safeguarding service for all students.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with strong leadership skills, excellent safeguarding knowledge, and a passion for student welfare to make a significant impact across our multi-campus college.

Senior Safeguarding Lead - Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the team of Campus Safeguarding Leads and associated staff, ensuring consistency, best practice, and high-quality safeguarding support across the college.
  • Provide professional safeguarding advice and support to staff and students, including Higher Education and Apprenticeship cohorts.
  • Oversee safeguarding referrals and liaise effectively with external agencies including local authority children’s services, Prevent/Counter-Terrorism units, and the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO).
  • Ensure safeguarding policies, procedures, and practices are compliant with statutory guidance and are regularly reviewed, updated, and embedded across the college.
  • Deliver training, guidance, and awareness-raising sessions for staff to promote a strong safeguarding culture.
  • Lead wellbeing activities in collaboration with Wellbeing Advisors to foster a supportive student community.
  • Support equality, diversity, and inclusion initiatives, ensuring that students are empowered to achieve regardless of their protected characteristics.
  • Monitor safeguarding cases, ensure accurate record-keeping, and provide reports to the Director of Student Services and Safeguarding and the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Contribute to the college’s quality improvement processes and ensure readiness for external inspection (e.g., Ofsted).
  • Build strong external relationships with local authorities, schools, higher education providers, and community partners.

Senior Safeguarding Lead - You:

You will be a highly motivated safeguarding practitioner with proven experience in managing safeguarding services and leading a team. You will have excellent knowledge of safeguarding legislation and statutory guidance, including Prevent, and be confident in working with external agencies and partners. Strong communication skills, the ability to manage complex caseloads, and a reflective, student-centred approach are essential.
