Position: Transport Manager (6 month contract)
Location: Didcot, Oxfordshire
Salary: 38,000 - 40,000 per annum

The Role:
As a Transport Manager, you will work within the Logistics/Operations department dealing with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure the seamless, cost-effective, and compliant movement of goods and personnel.
Main Responsibilities:
* Plan, coordinate, and manage daily transport operations to ensure timely deliveries and collections.
* Optimise routes, schedules, and vehicle utilisation to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
* Manage the allocation and performance of drivers and vehicles.
* Ensure compliance with all transport-related legislation, including driver hours, vehicle maintenance, and operator licensing.
* Maintain accurate records for audits and inspections (e.g., tachographs, MOTs, insurance, servicing).
* Promote and enforce health & safety and environmental standards across all transport activities.
* Oversee maintenance schedules and ensure all vehicles are roadworthy and properly serviced.
* Manage vehicle acquisition, replacement, and disposal in line with business needs.
* Monitor fuel usage, telematics data, and driver performance to optimise fleet efficiency.
* Lead, train, and develop drivers and transport staff.
* Conduct regular performance reviews and support continuous professional development.
* Manage driver recruitment, inductions, and disciplinary processes where required.
* Prepare and manage the transport budget, controlling costs and identifying savings opportunities.
* Monitor KPIs and produce regular management reports on transport performance.
* Liaise with internal departments and external customers to ensure smooth operations.
* Resolve transport-related queries or complaints promptly and professionally.
About You:
Applicants should have excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, and experience working with transport management systems (TMS), telematics, and Microsoft Office. You will need to be proficient in UK transport legislation and demonstrate strong communication and leadership abilities.
Required:
* Proven experience in a transport management or logistics leadership role.
* Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation, operator licensing, and compliance standards.
* Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
* Strong communication and leadership abilities.
* Proficient in transport management systems (TMS), telematics, and Microsoft Office.
* CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) in Road Transport (essential).
* Full UK Driving Licence (HGV Licence desirable).
