Due to continued growth within our clients commercial division and framework, we are recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor to bolster their team. This position may also suit a Quantity Surveyor who is roughly 6-12 months off stepping up to a Senior Quantity Surveyor role. This position can be based from the Doncaster or Sheffield office with travel between the two.



Role Responsibilities

  • Lead the initial and ongoing briefing of project teams on the commercial, contractual, and compliance obligations related to your assigned projects.

  • Maximise contract revenue, profitability, and cash flow across all projects within your remit.

  • Manage contract administration duties, which include fulfilling all reporting obligations, and ensuring the timely preparation, submission, and negotiation of variations, claims, and contractual notices.

  • Produce or validate accurate monthly contract performance reports, including cost value reconciliations, in accordance with company and client requirements.

  • Collaborate with project teams to manage budgets and ongoing costs, maintain cost-to-complete forecasts, and apply sound budgetary control procedures.

  • Work closely with Commercial and Project Managers to identify key risks or issues and determine appropriate mitigation or resolution actions.

  • Maintain strong client relationships throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring effective communication and alignment on final account expectations.

  • Keep accurate, compliant records as required by both the Contract and the Commercial Manual to meet internal and external audit standards.

  • Oversee the procurement and ongoing management of subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring compliance with the Commercial Manual and delivery of best value.

  • Monitor and manage outgoing cash flow, ensuring alignment with payment performance reporting standards.

  • Support the company’s business development efforts and contribute to securing new contracts.

  • Provide performance feedback and lessons learned to the Work Winning team to support future tendering efforts.

  • Assist your Line Manager and the Finance Manager in developing, reviewing, and managing annual budgets in line with the company's financial authority framework.

  • Perform line management duties for commercial team members, including performance reviews, motivation, communication, and professional development in line with organisational needs.

  • Ensure clear and effective communication and information flow within your department and team.

  • Liaise with Finance and Operations departments regularly to identify opportunities for Research and Development Expenditure Credit (RDEC).

  • Provide feedback on supplier and subcontractor performance to the Procurement team.

  • Carry out any additional duties as directed by the Project Commercial Manager or Commercial Manager

 

Qualifications
Essential: Degree or equivalent appropriate experience or qualification
Advantageous: Chartered Surveyor or equivalent professional membership.

Experience
Essential: 
Strong, demonstrable experience in Quantity Surveying, Contract and commercial awareness, Experience of working with multiple Contract types (Fixed Price / Target / Cost Reimbursable) and Forms of Contract, Experience managing CVR's, Cost tracking, Construction budgets.
Advantageous: Experience within the Rail or infrastructure sectors, Experience of working with Network Rail and their contract forms

Other
Essential: Full UK Driving licence
