Astute's Nuclear Team is exclusively partnering with one of the industry leaders in nuclear waste and decommissioning services throughout the UK, to recruit a Commercial Manager for their site in Winfrith, Dorchester.

The Commercial Manager will be responsible for managing the overall commercial strategy to identify, secure and deliver a number of radioactive waste projects across the nuclear site. The commercial Manager role comes with a salary of up to 90,000, car allowance and a competitive bonus scheme as well as other benefits including private healthcare.

Responsibilities and duties of the Commercial Manager role

Reporting to the Head of Projects you will:

  • Successfully identify, secure and deliver nuclear waste projects for business growth, incorporating key scientific, engineering, commercial and project management principles throughout.
  • Work closely with project delivery teams to offer technical commercial support and aid successful delivery in line with customer contracts.
  • Lead the monthly forecasting and delivery process within the project management team, collaborating closely with key business stakeholders across operations, SHEQ and finance.
  • Play a pivotal role in shaping the service delivery plan, contributing actively to monthly sales and operations planning meetings (SOP).
  • Provide leadership and guidance in the technical execution, bidding, and commercial delivery of complex radioactive waste management contracts.
  • Partner with the business development team and senior project managers to gain a deep understanding of customer needs, enabling the development of clear, timely, and competitive bid submissions.
  • Collaborate with department managers across Operations, HP, ACS, and M&E to identify, secure, and allocate resources needed for project delivery.
  • Accurately forecast, monitor, and report on project performance and progress, using appropriate tools and software.
  • Take ownership of project planning, ensuring alignment with customer milestones and internal deadlines.
  • Evaluate resource requirements and ensure timely deployment of internal resources to meet bid response deadlines with the appropriate level of technical detail.
  • Proactively identify, manage, and mitigate risks associated with bids and projects.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and continuous improvement in bid writing and project management to enhance overall team capability and project profitability, leading the commercial and bid team development.
  • Support operational delivery by contributing to project financial planning, reporting, resource management, and tracking of key financial performance indicators (KPIs).
  • All other duties as required.

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Degree-qualified in a relevant Science or Engineering discipline-or over 15 years' proven experience in a related role
  • Ideally, working towards or already holding a relevant professional accreditation (e.g. CChem, CEng, APMP, RWA)
  • Deep understanding of commercial practices in securing and managing contracts
