Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Occupational Nurse to join Dorset Council's team in Dorchester on a temporary, part-time basis. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in managing employee attendance, promoting well-being, and supporting smooth returns to work after illness or injury. This role requires a blend of strong communication skills, medical knowledge, and the ability to analyse and manage absence data effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

Daily Communication with Sick Employees:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employees reporting sick.
  • Conduct daily calls to collect relevant data about the illness or injury.
  • Document conversations, including expected return-to-work dates based on medical advice.
  • Monitor and analyse absence data to ensure employees return to work as planned.

Long-Term Absence Management:

  • Collaborate with advisory teams on complex and long-term absence cases.
  • Work with occupational health and well-being teams to facilitate smooth returns to work.

Promotion of Well-Being:

  • Partner with the Wellbeing team to provide resources and support for employees.
  • Contribute to the Place Directorate Wellbeing Plan.
  • Promote a culture of well-being that encourages attendance and supports work-life balance.
  • Advocate for mental health support and help implement related initiatives.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • General medical training, with relevant qualifications.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle sensitive conversations.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to analyse absence data effectively.
  • Knowledge of absence management best practices.
  • Ability to collaborate with various stakeholders, including advisory and occupational health teams.
  • Strong IT skills
