GMP Recruitment are proud to partner a successful and highly recognisable Logistics company located in Droitwich. We are recruiting on their behalf for an experienced Transport Planning Manager to join their team on a full time, permanent contract.

This is working 08:00 - 18:00 or 11:00 - 21:00 (alternating weekly) with some additional weekend cover to support the transport office, this is paid as additional time (Alternate Saturday Mornings: 08:00 - 13:00).

For all the above requirements you will be offered a highly competitive Salary of up to 45,000 per annum, which is demonstrable with previous, relevant experience, plus additional company benefits.

We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Transport Planning Manager to lead the planning and coordination of our HGV fleet operations. This role is critical to ensuring the efficient, compliant, and cost-effective delivery of goods across our logistics network. The successful candidate will be responsible for route planning, driver management, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement of transport operations.

Transport Planning Manager main duties:

  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate daily HGV routes to ensure timely and efficient deliveries.
  • Monitor fleet performance, ensuring maximum vehicle utilisation and minimal downtime.
  • Manage a team of transport planners and liaise closely with drivers, depot managers, and customer service teams.
  • Maintain compliance with all relevant transport legislation, including driver hours, vehicle maintenance schedules, and health & safety standards.
  • Analyse operational performance data to identify opportunities for improvement in service levels and cost savings.
  • Work collaboratively with warehouse, distribution, and customer service departments to ensure seamless supply chain operations.
  • Respond to transport disruptions or issues swiftly and effectively, minimising impact on delivery schedules.
  • Ensure effective use of transport management systems (TMS) and vehicle tracking software.
  • Support the recruitment, training, and development of the transport team.
  • Lead or contribute to strategic transport projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

Transport Planning Manager desired skills and experience:

  • Proven experience in transport planning or logistics management, ideally within an HGV or large fleet environment.
  • Strong knowledge of UK transport regulations and compliance (e.g., Driver Hours, Working Time Directive, DVSA standards).
  • Excellent route planning and geographic knowledge of the UK.
  • Experience with Transport Management Systems (e.g., Paragon, Microlise, Fleetmatics).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and solve problems proactively.
  • CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) - National/International (desirable).A solid understanding of transport operations, including driver schedules, routes, and regulatory compliance.
