Jackson Hogg is delighted to be recruiting for a highly experiencedLead Mechanical Engineerto join our client's engineering team based in Cramlington on a full-time, permanent basis. Reporting to the Head of Engineering and Construction, you will play a key role in overseeing mechanical design and engineering activities across a range of projects in the energy sector. This is a leadership position that requires both technical expertise and the ability to provide clear direction to multi-discipline teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee mechanical engineering activities, philosophies, and technical studies.

  • Review and approve specifications, data sheets, requisitions, and vendor drawings.

  • Provide technical consultancy to clients, including equipment selection and design recommendations.

  • Ensure all engineering work complies with QA standards and client procedures.

  • Undertake performance and witness testing of mechanical equipment on behalf of the company or client.

  • Provide expert input across conceptual, basic, and detailed engineering phases.

  • Offer technical direction, advice, and control within the mechanical discipline.

  • Identify and evaluate new technologies to deliver cost-effective solutions.

  • Liaise with clients and internal engineering disciplines to ensure timely delivery of project deliverables.

  • Develop and improve company standards, design methods, and best practices.

  • Prepare cost, time, and resource estimates for projects and scope changes.

  • Provide accurate progress reporting in line with project requirements.

  • Support business initiatives that drive cost reduction and improved productivity.

  • Bring deep technical knowledge of mechanical engineering within the onshore energy sector, alongside proven leadership skills and the ability to work autonomously.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).

  • Extensive experience in the onshore energy industry, ideally across Petrochemical, Waste-to-Energy, or Renewables projects.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise teams, from conceptual design through to detailed engineering review.

  • Strong knowledge of relevant industry codes, standards, and analytical techniques.

  • Excellent written and spoken English.

Desirable

  • Chartered Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

  • Experience in developing and implementing company standards and design improvements.
