We are currently working on the below opportunity for a Principal Building Control Inspector working with North Northamptonshire Council to deliver a customer-focused, compliant Building Control service that supports safety, sustainability, and innovation while adapting to legislative changes and driving service improvementPrincipal Building Control InspectorClient: North Northamptonshire CouncilStart Date: ASAP Duration: 3 Months Initially (likely extension)Rate: £60 p/h (Umbrella Inside IR35) Hybrid Working Arrangement: 3 Days Onsite weeklyKey Responsibilities:

  • Conduct building control activities including site inspections, plan checks, dangerous structures, demolitions, and stakeholder coordination
  • Enforce building regulations, investigate breaches, gather evidence, and attend court where necessary
  • Lead on complex applications, supporting and supervising other inspectors
  • Maintain accurate project records in line with performance and regulatory standards
  • Support day-to-day service delivery, resource management, and performance monitoring
  • Provide technical advice and legislative support to the team and related services
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and other service quality frameworks
  • Manage and respond to dangerous structure incidents, ensuring public safety
  • Lead staff development and training to maintain team competency
  • Maintain personal registration and competency through ongoing development
  • Assist in developing marketing strategies to increase service income
  • Prepare and manage timely fee quotations
  • Deputise for the Building Control Manager when required
  • Support budget planning, forecasting, and financial risk management
  • Contribute to long-term service improvements and transformation initiatives
  • Promote carbon reduction measures within the service to support net zero goals

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Need to be Level 2A or ideally 2F
  • Knowledge of the Building Regulations 2010, the Building Act 1984 and associated legislation
  • Registered with the Building Safety Regulator
  • Experience of plan assessment and site inspections
  • Proficiency in digital tools and systems used in Building Control case management
