Locum SEND Lawyer – South West – Local Authority - Remote Working – 6 Months + - £60ph OUTSIDE IR35

Venn Group’s specialist Legal team is recruiting for a Locum SEND Lawyer to join a reputable Local Authority in the South West. This is a locum role for an initial term of 6 months and is subject to extension thereafter. Our client is ideally recruiting on a part-time basis, with the ideal candidate working 30 hours per week. For this position you will need to be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive with previous SEND experience.

Duties and responsibilities for this post may include:

  • Holding own caseload of SEND matters
  • Dealing with SENDIST appeals to conclusion
  • Undertaking advocacy and representing the Council in court
  • Dealing with challenges in relation to provision, placement and the LA's refusal to carry out an assessment of a child's special educational needs.
  • Advising on amendments to a provision in the statement,
  • Advising on suitable placements in respect of a child's special educational needs.
  • Dealing with claims for Judicial Review
  • Dealing with Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman complaints
  • Dealing with client enquiries relating to EHCP and SEND matters
  • Assisting in the review of policies

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in SEND & Education law gained within a Local Authority and will be confident to jump straight in and assist the team in what has proven to be a busy period. An hourly rate of up to £60 (OUTSIDE IR35) is offered for this position, alongside fully remote working.
