Payroll & Finance Officer

Location: Great Dunmow

Salary: £30k - £34k per annum + full company benefits

Job Type: Permanent - Full Time Only

Assure Personnel are supporting a well-established logistics company to hire for a meticulous and experienced Payroll Clerk. The successful candidate will manage payroll for up to 125 employees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the complete payroll cycle from start to finish.
  • Process weekly payroll for approximately 125 individuals.
  • Collect, verify, and maintain timesheets, work hours, and site attendance data.
  • Ensure all payroll records are accurate, current, and handled with confidentiality.
  • Reconcile deductions and payments with HMRC.
  • Generate and analyse payroll reports for internal stakeholders.
  • Address payroll-related questions from staff and subcontractors.
  • Ensure all processes adhere to current UK payroll legislation.
  • Manage pension contributions, tax code changes, and statutory deductions (PAYE, NI, SMP, SSP, etc.).
  • Support audits through accurate reconciliation of payroll records.
  • Conduct Right to Work verification's.
  • Contribute to payroll and CIS compliance reviews.
  • Provide administrative support to the HR team as required.

Required Experience & Skills:

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience handling full-cycle payroll, preferably within the construction sector.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid working knowledge of Excel.
  • In-depth understanding of statutory payroll components such as PAYE, NI, SSP, and SMP.
  • Familiarity with payroll software systems (RedSky preferable but not essential).
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong analytic skills with the ability to resolve discrepancies and improve processes.
  • Comfortable managing a high volume of payroll enquiries.
