Job Title: Project Engineer (Contract)

A respected independent operator within the UK's energy infrastructure sector is seeking a detail oriented and proactive Project Engineer to help deliver its 2025 asset improvement programme. This is a hands on contract role at a critical operational facility, ideal for someone experienced in brownfield projects and technical upgrades within a COMAH-regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and support the delivery of small to medium scale brownfield projects through front end development, execution, and close-out.
  • Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and contractor teams to implement upgrades to mechanical systems, access infrastructure, and safety equipment.
  • Prepare and manage technical documentation including Statements of Requirements, Scopes of Work, cost estimates, and schedules.
  • Provide engineering input into the planning and coordination of site activities, ensuring alignment with operational and safety standards.
  • Support site maintenance teams in the execution of technically complex upgrades.
  • Identify project risks and contribute to mitigation planning and safety assurance.
  • Actively participate in review meetings and short-term planning sessions.
  • Promote and support innovation and continuous improvement across engineering and project delivery processes.


Essential Criteria:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (BEng or equivalent).
  • 2-5 years' experience working in a high-hazard (COMAH) environment.
  • Proven track record in engineering support or delivery of brownfield projects.
  • Knowledge of process plant operations, engineering compliance, and project costing.
  • Strong communication and planning skills able to work cross functionally with technical teams.
  • Comfortable using MS Office tools and engineering documentation systems.


Desirable:

  • Relevant certifications (NEBOSH, PMI, API) or professional memberships.
  • Experience in energy, petrochemical, or industrial utilities environments.
  • Familiarity with utility system upgrades such as pumps, valves, and access systems.
  • Exposure to lean project delivery and risk management frameworks.
