Health Safety and Environmental Officer

Location: East Grinstead, RH19 1XZ
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 per annum + Excellent Benefits!
Contract: Full time, FTC – 12 Months
Hours: 07.00am – 15.30pm (Monday – Friday)

We are now recruiting for an HSE Officer to join our engine manufacturing facility on a 12-month fixed term contract.

You will be working at the very heart of our production area, you will play an essential role in promoting safe working practices and embedding a positive safety culture!

We’re looking for someone who brings energy, influence and hands-on leadership to our teams someone who thrives on being out on the shop floor, coaching and empowering people to work safely and brilliantly.

In this role, you’ll be a driving force for clear communication, shared expectations and a culture of continuous improvement across all aspects of health, safety and environmental performance.

Additionally, as our HSE Officer you will be responsible for:

  • Providing daily HSE presence on the production floor, offering hands-on coaching and support.
  • Building strong relationships with employees at all levels, encouraging safe practices through trust and influence rather than instruction.
  • Guiding teams in recognising hazards, improving behaviours and understanding the “why” behind safe working methods.
  • Acting as a bridge between shop-floor staff and management, ensuring open communication and shared ownership of safety.
  • Supporting incident reporting, near-miss reviews and root-cause analysis as required.
  • Assisting with HSE audits, inspections and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Promoting best practice and ensure compliance with internal standards and relevant legislative requirements.

In order to be successful in this role you must have:

  • Strong background in Health, Safety & Environment within a manufacturing or production setting (engine or automotive experience desirable but not essential).
  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage people constructively at all levels.
  • A collaborative approach with a genuine passion for coaching and helping others succeed.
  • Solid understanding of safe working practices, risk reduction principles and practical HSE behaviours.
  • Strong understanding of production operations, overhaul processes, and safety management systems
  • Confident, proactive and approachable, with the ability to build credibility quickly.
  • Relevant HSE qualification (e.g. NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent) preferred.
