SEN Teaching Assistant – Resource Base (Secondary School) – Southampton

GSL Education is currently seeking a committed and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join the Resource Base of a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Southampton.

The Role:

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with a small group of students in the school’s dedicated Resource Base. These students have a range of additional needs, particularly linked to speech, language, and communication. You’ll work alongside specialist staff to deliver tailored support, helping pupils access learning, build confidence, and develop independence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide targeted support to students with SEN, including speech and language needs
  • Deliver small-group or one-to-one interventions as directed by the SENCO
  • Help students engage in classroom learning and promote positive behaviour
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other support staff
  • Contribute to EHCP reviews and maintain accurate progress records

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEN, particularly speech and language difficulties
  • A caring, patient, and resilient approach to supporting learning and wellbeing
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, Speech & Language qualification) are desirable but not essential
  • A genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of young people
