First People Solutions are partnering with a leading civil engineering firm who specialise in earthworks on power and renewable energy projects, and we are recruiting an experienced Section Engineer on a permanent basis to cover projects through Scotland.

You will ideally be located in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Fife or anywhere else throughout the central belt and able to travel to various sites throughout Scotland when required.

You will need to have:

  • Strong track record in setting out for civil engineering projects.
  • Experience in quality management, including preparation and delivery of ITPs.
  • Ability to plan work efficiently and delegate tasks effectively.
  • Confident communicator, able to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Proficient IT skills, particularly with Microsoft Office.
  • Full UK manual driving licence.
  • Flexibility to travel to sites across Scotland.

Your responsibilities will be to:

  • Oversee and coordinate site engineers, assisting the Site Agent and supervisors in the smooth daily operation of the project.
  • Provide accurate setting out and dimensional control to keep construction works precise and compliant.
  • Develop and manage inspection and test plans (ITPs) in line with project drawings and specifications.
  • Take ownership of temporary works, ensuring safe design, installation, and compliance at all times.
  • Work closely with the Site Agent to drive high standards in health, safety, environment, and quality.
  • Offer technical guidance to resolve on-site issues and respond to engineering queries.
  • Manage procurement schedules and materials take-offs to ensure resources are effectively controlled.
  • Share knowledge and mentor junior engineers, encouraging their development within the team.

It would be beneficial but not essential if you have:

  • Temporary Works Coordinator certification.
  • HSG47 Service Avoidance (Cat/Genny).
  • Background in the energy or utilities sector.
