We are excited to partner with a forward-thinking Energy Consultancy, who are seeking aProcess & Safety Engineerto join their team.

If you are someone who is looking to progress your career in safety engineering, this role offers a meaningful platform to influence safety standards and work on diverse, technically challenging projects across energy, chemicals, and manufacturing industries. My client has an immediate need for someone to be deployed on a project within the oil & gas sector, so preference will be given to candidates with that exposure.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the safe design, operation, and modification of plant systems by applying functional and process safety principles.
  • Conduct and support safety assessments, including SIL determination/verification, HAZOPs, LOPAs, and other risk analysis activities.
  • Contribute to developing and maintaining safety requirements specifications and proof test procedures.
  • Provide input on hazard identification, risk analysis, and mitigation strategies to ensure risks are reduced to ALARP.
  • Support the management of functional safety lifecycle activities in line with IEC 61508/61511 standards and company procedures.
  • Assist with hazardous area classification and ensure compliance with ATEX/DSEAR regulations.
  • Participate in fire, gas, blast, and dispersion modelling assessments working alongside specialist teams.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through effective communication and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain awareness of industry best practices and participate in relevant training and professional development.

Candidate Profile:

  • 5 years' experience in process safety within oil & gas, petrochemical, energy, or similar sectors.
  • Degree (Master's preferred) in Chemical, Process, Control, or Automation Engineering, or related field.
  • Proven knowledge of functional safety standards (IEC 61508/61511) and SIL verification processes.
  • Strong understanding of process safety management tools such as HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, and QRA.
  • Certifications in functional and process safety would be highly advantageous.
  • Familiarity with hazardous area classification and compliance with ATEX/DSEAR.
  • Good analytical skills, problem-solving proficiency, and ability to communicate safety concepts clearly.
  • Proactive, collaborative, and committed to fostering a safety-first environment.
