Technical Manager

Alexander Steele are working exclusively with an established food manufacturing business in Midlothian which are actively recruiting a new Technical Manager. The ideal candidate has worked previously in a Technical Manager role and has a background in food manufacturing.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Act as the lead technical contact for major retailers, auditors, and external stakeholders
  • Lead and prepare for all external audits and customer visits, maintaining high site standards
  • Manage, mentor, and develop the technical team, with a focus on training and capability building
  • Oversee raw material and supplier assurance, including specifications, traceability, and compliance checks
  • Drive continuous improvement across food safety, quality systems, and site-wide technical practices
  • Support NPD and process development to ensure smooth, compliant product launches
  • Champion quality standards across the site, working closely with operations to embed best practices
  • Oversee robust allergen controls, including effective changeovers between nut and non-nut products
  • Own all aspects of technical compliance, documentation, and BRC audit readiness (targeting AA grade)
  • Maintain strong visibility on the factory floor to reinforce a culture of food safety and quality
