SEMH English Teacher

Prospero Teaching are recruitng for a specialist SEN School situated on the edge of the beautiful New Forest who are seeking a committed and experienced English Specialist to join its dedicated team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering the English curriculum to pupils in Key Stages 3 and 4, up to GCSE level.

The school caters to students aged 11-16 with a range of Special Educational Needs and is recognised for providing a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment where learners are encouraged to develop essential life skills and prepare for adulthood.

The English curriculum is designed to build literacy, communication, and language skills in a way that is engaging, accessible, and individually tailored. Through small class sizes and a supportive team, students are empowered to build confidence in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Lessons are structured to foster a love of language, promote academic progress, and develop functional skills for everyday life.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be a qualified primary-trained teacher with a strong foundation in English
  • Have the ability to deliver engaging and differentiated lessons to KS3 and KS4 pupils
  • Demonstrate a passion for working with young people with Special Educational Needs
  • Collaborate effectively with a supportive and enthusiastic English team
  • Show creativity, flexibility, and a commitment to inclusive education
  • Previous experience working with SEN pupils is highly advantageous

Experience, Training And Qualifications

  • QTS or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year English teaching experience in the UK

To be eligible for this role through Prospero Teaching, you must:

  • Hold Right to Work in the UK
  • Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
  • Provide two professional child related references that cover the last 2 years
