We are seeking a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our team. This role is crucial for supporting a challenging Year 2 student with special educational needs, including SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) and ADHD. The ideal candidate will have experience managing violent behaviour and be skilled in creating a supportive and effective learning environment.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide tailored support to a Year 2 student who has been excluded multiple times due to behavioural issues.
  • Implement strategies to manage and improve student behaviour, including de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement.
  • Work closely with the teaching staff to adapt lessons to meet the student's educational and emotional needs.
  • Monitor and report on the student's progress to teachers and parents.
  • Assist in developing an individualised education plan (IECP) that addresses both academic and behavioural goals.
  • Ensure the student engages with the curriculum through specially designed educational activities.
  • Manage any incidents of aggression or disruption in line with school policies and training.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Qualified to at least Level 4 as a Teaching Assistant or equivalent.
  • Experience working with children who have SEMH needs and challenging behaviours.
  • Team-Teach training or similar behavioural management certification is highly preferable.
  • Strong understanding of the educational requirements for children with special needs.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to support the student and staff.
