Estimator - We are working with a commercial and domestic building contractor who delivers a range of commercial and domestic building services to clients throughout Cambridgeshire and the surrounding area.
As an Estimator you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the estimating and cost control process across various residential and commercial construction projects playing a key role in preparing accurate cost estimates, tender submissions, and managing project budgets to ensure profitability and financial efficiency.
The Role:
- Analyse drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labour estimate in line with deadlines.
- Calculating material quantities and costs, labour costs and an achievable project time frame.
- Sourcing quotes from suppliers and contractors within a specified time frame.
- Assessing the risk levels associated with a project and advise on risk mitigation strategies.
- Establishing and maintaining relationships with contractors and vendors.
- Negotiating labour contracts and schedules.·Organise and lead pre start meetings with contracts team and estimating team.
- Produce programme of works/GANT Chart using project.
- To produce bill of quantities for Contracts Assistants to hand over at Internal Pre start contracts meeting.
- Monitor project costs throughout the construction process and ensure projects stay within budget.
- Oversee contract administration, including managing variations and change orders.
- Handle disputes and claims related to project costs.
- Liaise with clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to gather essential project information.
- Evaluate and negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors for competitive pricing.
- Monitor project costs and conduct regular financial reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements:
- Driving license and own transport - you will be required to makes site visits.
- Proven experience as an Estimator and/or Quantity Surveyor in the construction industry.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Be highly organised and be able to work well within a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of the building industry and building supplies would be an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and regulations.
- Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., Degree or HND in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or similar).
- Membership of professional bodies (e.g., RICS or CIOB) is advantageous but not essential.
