Senior Quantity Surveyor – Ely

£60,000–£70,000 + package (DOE)

Multi-Sector Cost Consultancy | Pre- & Post-Contract | Client-Facing Role | Influence & Progression

The Opportunity

A well-established, privately owned construction consultancy based in Cambridgeshire is looking to appoint a Senior Quantity Surveyoras part of its next phase of measured, sustainable growth.

The practice has been operating successfully for many years and has built its reputation on repeat client relationships, technical credibility, and a problem-solving approach to cost and commercial management. Rather than chasing volume, the business has grown through long-term client trust and consistent delivery across a range of sectors.

With a secure forward workload and multiple specialist service lines operating in parallel, the consultancy is now strengthening its senior capability as projects continue to increase in scale and complexity.

You will be joining a business where senior leadership remains closely involved in delivery, decisions are made quickly, and surveyors are trusted to exercise professional judgement, rather than operate within a rigid or heavily layered corporate structure.

There is clear scope for progression into an Associate or leadership position for the right individual as the business continues to develop.

The Role

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will lead commissions across both pre-contract and post-contract stages, acting as a key commercial advisor to clients while remaining hands-on in delivery.

You will be trusted to manage your own workload, lead client relationships, and make commercial decisions appropriate to your level. The role offers autonomy, variety, and visibility, alongside the opportunity to support and mentor junior surveyors within the team.

This position would suit a consultancy-side Senior QS who enjoys responsibility, influence, and being close to decision-making rather than working through rigid reporting lines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading cost planning, procurement strategies, and commercial delivery
  • Managing contracts under JCT and NEC forms
  • Overseeing valuations, variations, and final accounts
  • Providing clear commercial and contractual advice to clients
  • Supporting dispute avoidance and commercial risk management
  • Mentoring Quantity Surveyors and APC candidates
  • Contributing to the ongoing development of systems, processes, and best practice

About You

  • Chartered Quantity Surveyor (MRICS) or close to achieving chartership
  • Proven experience operating at Senior QS level within a consultancy environment
  • Strong technical knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts
  • Confident, credible, and comfortable in direct client-facing roles
  • Commercially astute with a pragmatic, solutions-led mindset
  • Motivated by influence, quality of work, and long-term progression

Benefits & Package

  • £60,000–£70,000 depending on experience
  • Competitive overall package
  • Continued professional and leadership development
  • Hybrid working with flexibility built around project needs, not presenteeism
  • High level of autonomy and trust
  • A long-term role within a consultancy that invests in people rather than churning staff
