We are currently recruiting on behalf of a leading company for the role of Specification Technologist. This position is essential for ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and maintenance of product specifications across various platforms. The successful candidate will work closely with internal teams to develop and manage product specifications, ensuring they meet customer requirements, regulatory standards, and industry best practices.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Develop, review, and maintain product specifications, ensuring they are accurate and comply with customer requirements and food legislation.
  • Handle the review and sign-off of all Raw Ingredient Specifications.
  • Complete Provisional Specifications for new products, presenting a detailed overview to customers.
  • Create full Finished Product Specifications, which may be web-based or in the customer's specified format.
  • Liaise with internal departments such as Technical, New Product Development (NPD), and Production to ensure specifications meet both company and customer expectations.
  • Manage and update customer and retailer specification portals, ensuring all information is accurate and current.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant food safety and quality standards, including BRCGS, retailer codes of practice, and legal regulations.
  • Assist in label verification to ensure all packaging information complies with regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Address customer queries related to product specifications, ingredients, and technical data.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure raw material specifications meet necessary standards.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and support both internal and external audits.
  • Participate in technical meetings and reviews, and update Finished Product Specifications as needed according to customer review policies.
  • Assist with internal audits using BRCGS FS standards and support other roles within the Technical Department as reasonably requested.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in a similar role within the food manufacturing industry.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety regulations, labelling requirements, and retailer specifications.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with various internal teams.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Proficient IT skills, including experience with specification management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Degree or diploma in Food Science, Food Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience working with major UK retailers and their specification platforms.
  • Familiarity with BRCGS standards and food legislation.
