 SEMH Teaching Assistant

We are recruiting a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join an independent secondary school for students aged 11 to 19 who will thrive in a small, therapeutic, and nurturing environment. This specialist setting supports young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, providing a tailored and highly supportive approach to learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individualised support to students with SEMH needs, helping them engage positively in lessons and daily routines.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff to maintain a calm, structured, and safe learning environment.
  • Implement behaviour and emotional regulation strategies in line with student support plans.
  • Encourage the development of social skills, emotional resilience, and confidence.
  • Support students in overcoming barriers to learning through consistent, empathetic guidance.

Applicant Suitability

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs is highly advantageous.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, patient, and empathetic approach.
