As a Sociology Teacher, your responsibilities typically include more than just marking and planning, although those are important aspects of the role. Here are some key responsibilities you would typically have:
• Curriculum Development: Develop and deliver a comprehensive and engaging sociology curriculum that covers essential topics such as social theory, research methods, family dynamics, and social change.
• Effective Classroom Instruction: Provide clear and effective instruction, utilizing innovative teaching methods, technology, and real-world applications to make complex sociological concepts accessible and relatable to students.
• Student Assessment: Assess student progress through a variety of evaluation methods, including quizzes, tests, practical assessments, and projects, and provide constructive feedback to promote academic growth.
• Mentorship and Guidance: Foster critical thinking, inquiry skills, and a passion for sociology in students, guiding them towards their academic and personal development, and preparing them for future careers in sociology and related fields.
• Classroom Management: Establish and maintain a positive and organized classroom environment that encourages active participation, collaboration, and a strong enthusiasm for sociology among students.
• Professional Development: Stay updated with the latest developments in the field of sociology and education, bringing current industry insights into the classroom and participating in continuous professional development to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.

The successful candidate for Sociology Teacher will have:
• Qualified Teacher Status (ideally PGCE, GTP, BEd, Cert Ed, BA with QTS) in Sociology or a related field.
• Prior experience teaching Sociology to secondary school students.
• Strong knowledge of the national curriculum and assessment methods in sociology.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
• DBS on Updated Service.
