Design Manager - HS2 Euston Station

About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to join the team delivering the prestigious HS2 Euston Station project. Reporting to the Senior Design Manager, you will lead all aspects of design coordination, compliance, and assurance across complex multidisciplinary works, ensuring delivery of safe, sustainable, and high-quality solutions in line with client and project requirements.

Project overview:
The HS2 Euston Station development involves significant enabling works, including the diversion of major utility assets in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment. The role demands strong leadership, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and progress design packages through Concept, Scheme and Detailed Design to completion.
  • Guide and develop designs to ensure safety, buildability, operational efficiency, and maintainability.
  • Implement robust intervention and verification processes to ensure technical assurance.
  • Drive value-led design through collaboration with design, construction, and supply chain partners.
  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement across all design activities.
  • Review and approve design submissions, ensuring compliance with project and technical standards.
  • Coordinate and manage design interfaces with adjacent contracts and third-party assets.
  • Identify, escalate, and resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • Support technical quality, change control, and design assurance processes.
  • Manage the design programme, cost forecasting, and engineering change control.
  • Liaise with clients, technical leads, assurance managers, and stakeholders to achieve project objectives.
  • Ensure design teams maintain CDM risk registers and conduct effective handovers to delivery teams.


Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary design teams and manage competing priorities.
  • Strong understanding of design management tools and common data environments (Aconex, ProjectWise, AssetWise).
  • Solid knowledge of UK health, safety, and CDM regulations.
  • Highly organised, proactive, and capable of managing design deliverables in a fast-paced environment.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in an engineering or related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in design management within major engineering or construction projects.
  • Experience with utilities or third-party asset interfaces is highly desirable.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (ICE or equivalent) preferred.
  • Valid CSCS card required.
