Construction Director – Housebuilding
Location: Exeter, Devon
About the Role:
We’re working with a leading residential developer to recruit an experienced Construction Director to join their South West region, based from their Exeter office.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a senior construction professional to take ownership of multiple large-scale housing and residential development projects across the region. You’ll oversee all aspects of construction operations – including project planning, budgeting, quality assurance, health & safety, and team performance – ensuring every project is delivered on time, to budget, and to the highest standards.
This is a key leadership role within the regional board, offering real influence over business strategy and delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the regional construction function across multiple housing developments.
- Oversee project planning, programme management, and operational delivery.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Work collaboratively with commercial, technical, and sales teams to ensure successful delivery.
- Drive continuous improvement in site safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
- Report to senior leadership on progress, performance, and risk management.
- Manage recruitment, development, and performance across the construction team.
- Provide input into new business opportunities and project feasibility.
About You
- Proven experience as a Construction Director, Head of Construction, or Operations Director within the housebuilding or residential development sector.
- Strong leadership and team management skills with experience overseeing multiple projects.
- Excellent understanding of construction methodologies, programming, and commercial performance.
- Track record of delivering high-quality, safe, and profitable developments.
- Confident communicator with the ability to influence at board level.
- Strong knowledge of JCT contracts and PLC processes.
- SMSTS, First Aid, and relevant H&S training required.
- Degree in Construction Management or related field (desirable).
