Salary: 14.82 per hour
Main Purpose of the Role
To support the Waste Operations service through the safe and effective operation of a Class C Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) or equivalent, to load and transport controlled waste in accordance with service standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive and load waste collection vehicles on scheduled rounds, following the team's task and finish scheme.
- Ensure all collections are carried out in line with Health & Safety procedures and the Drivers' Handbook.
- Comply with tachograph and Road Traffic Regulations at all times.
- Conduct daily vehicle checks, report defects, and maintain vehicle cleanliness.
- Use in-cab communication technology to receive instructions, record completed work, and log incidents (e.g., blocked streets, missed bins).
- Hold and maintain a valid Class C driving licence and Driver CPC qualification.
- Lead and oversee the crew, escalating performance or disciplinary issues as necessary.
- Assist loaders with the collection and emptying of bins and sacks when required.
- Be available to work Saturdays following bank holidays, Christmas, or during service disruptions due to severe weather.
- Carry out any other duties commensurate with the role of Waste Operative
Requirements
- Valid Class C LGV licence
- Driver CPC qualification
- Experience in waste collection or similar operational driving roles
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety and vehicle compliance
- Ability to work as part of a team and lead by example
- Flexible approach to working hours and duties
