Housing Options Caseworker

A local authority in Exeter is looking for an experienced Housing Options Caseworker to join their Housing Solutions team on a 2-month contract. This vital role focuses on preventing and relieving homelessness through direct advice, intervention, and case management.
You will provide person-centred housing advice, develop prevention plans, and manage homelessness applications in accordance with statutory duties. The successful candidate will work closely with a range of stakeholders, including landlords, support agencies, and internal departments.

Key Responsibilities:
·Deliver tailored housing advice to residents threatened with homelessness
·Develop and implement personalised housing action plans
·Manage a busy caseload, conducting full homelessness assessments
·Make decisions in line with statutory guidance and issue s.184 notifications
·Engage with landlords, legal services, and health/social care professionals
·Assist in securing accommodation via private rental, supported housing or social housing routes
·Apply discretionary funding as needed to support prevention and relief outcomes

Essential Requirements:
·Minimum of 1 year's experience in a similar public-facing role, supporting homeless or vulnerable clients
·In-depth working knowledge of:
     Homelessness Reduction Act 2017
     The Localism Act 2011
     Housing Act 1996 Part VII (as amended by the Homelessness Act 2002)
·Strong communication, negotiation, and decision-making skills
·Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload in a fast-paced environment
·Competency in maintaining clear and accurate case records
