Butler Rose is delighted to be partnering with a prominent manufacturing business based in Exeter to recruit a highly motivated and commercially minded Materials Buyer. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth and cost-effective supply of raw materials to support operational efficiency and continued business growth.

About the Role:Reporting to the Plant Manager, this key position offers full responsibility for the procurement of raw materials for the site. You will work closely with production, planning, and supplier teams to ensure timely deliveries, manage inventory effectively, and drive cost efficiencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage purchasing and delivery schedules of raw materials.
  • Evaluate, select, and maintain relationships with quality suppliers.
  • Analyse raw material price trends and market conditions.
  • Negotiate contracts, pricing, and payment terms.
  • Resolve supplier issues and escalate where appropriate.
  • Track supplier performance using scorecards.
  • Oversee scrap/dust sales and consignment inventory.
  • Review material inventory and coordinate shipment of excess stock.
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting for incoming materials and purchasing activity.
  • Contribute to strategic procurement initiatives and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies and audit requirements.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in Procurement, Finance or Supply Chain.
  • Strong negotiation and supplier management capabilities.
  • Analytical mindset with excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Oracle and Microsoft Office systems.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in purchasing metals or related materials is highly desirable.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of alloy materials and their composition.
  • Proactive and adaptable with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Background in Chemistry, Supply Chain or related disciplines advantageous.
