Are you a motivated and detail-oriented individual looking to begin or advance your career in town planning? A highly respected and long-established planning and development consultancy, based in the heart of the West Country, is looking for an enthusiastic Assistant Town Planner to join their growing Exeter-based team.

Their multidisciplinary approach combines over 150 years of experience with deep regional knowledge, allowing them to deliver expert advice and practical solutions across Dorset, Somerset, Devon, and Cornwall.

Operating as a trusted name in planning and design, they provide tailored planning advice to help clients maximise the value of land and property through new development. Their work spans a variety of projects and includes residential, commercial, and agricultural developments.

Their planning and development team includes experienced Chartered Town Planners and Chartered Surveyors with backgrounds in both private consultancy and local authority planning-particularly in the Minerals and Waste sectors. Their collaborative working style is enhanced by in-house drawing, agency, and agricultural teams, allowing them to manage all aspects of planning and design from concept to completion.

The Role

As an Assistant Town Planner, you will be involved in a wide range of planning projects throughout the South West and beyond. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking and supportive team where professional development is encouraged.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing and submitting planning applications and supporting documents

  • Conduct planning research and site appraisals

  • Liaise with clients, local authorities, and consultants

  • Provide planning policy advice

  • Support senior planners in project delivery

  • Contribute to written reports and feasibility assessments

About You

Requirements:

  • A degree in Town Planning or a related field

  • Strong communication and organisational skills

  • An interest in rural and regional planning issues

  • A proactive approach with a willingness to learn

  • A full UK driving licence

Desirable:

  • Progress toward or interest in MRTPI accreditation

  • Some experience within a planning consultancy or local authority
