Are you a qualified Best Interests Assessor looking for a flexible opportunity in the Devon area? We are working with a reputable local authority to source experienced professionals to undertake Best Interests Assessments under the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS).

This is a fantastic opportunity for skilled practitioners who want to contribute to safeguarding adults at risk, while managing their own workload and assessments.

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Undertaking statutory responsibilities under the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) legal framework.

  • Completing holistic assessments that balance risk and protective factors, incorporating input from service users, informal networks, and professional agencies.

  • Convening and chairing multi-disciplinary meetings to inform legal decisions.

  • Providing detailed, legally robust recommendations supported by concise and accurate documentation.

  • Collaborating effectively with team members and partner agencies to promote integrated care.

  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of legislation and national guidance relevant to Best Interests Assessor practice.

Requirements & Qualifications:
  • Registered professional (Social Worker, Nurse, Occupational Therapist, or Chartered Psychologist).

  • Qualified as a Best Interests Assessor.

  • Experience conducting assessments within adult social care settings and working in multi-agency environments.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to manage a caseload of complex assessments and work autonomously.

  • Strong knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act, DoLS, and associated legal frameworks.

Working Hours & Contract Duration:
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm

  • Start Date: ASAP – 4 weeks

  • Contract Duration: 3–6 months ongoing

  • Pay: £250 per completed assessment

  • Location: Devon area (various locations across the county)
