Social Worker - Devon County Council

Kinship Assessment Team, up to £38 per hour

Are you a passionate and skilled Social Worker with experience in assessment? Devon County Council is looking for a dedicated Social Worker to join our Kinship Assessment Team.

This is a chance to join a vibrant service that places children and families at the center of all we do. You will be based at County Hall in Exeter, although other Devon County Council offices throughout the county can be considered.

About the Role

As an Assessing Social Worker on the Kinship Assessment Team, you will be responsible for preparing assessments for both Court and Fostering Panels. A key part of your role will involve supporting kinship carers through the process of temporary approval, providing them with regular supervision and guidance.

Working to statutory obligations and regulatory requirements, you will be a champion of restorative practice and a model for high-quality social work. You'll play a vital part in providing robust assessments that help support permanent decisions for children, ensuring their well-being and stability.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Social Work qualification and registration with Social Work England.
  • Satisfactory completion of your Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE).
  • Proven experience working in social care, including within a multi-agency and court environment. Knowledge of fostering regulations is essential.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • A strong understanding of the legislation, models, and theories relevant to children's social work.
  • Effective recording and planning skills.
  • A valid UK driving license and access to a car.

While there may be opportunities for some homeworking, you will need to be available to visit children and manage your caseload as required to meet the needs of the service.
