Astute's Renewables Team is partnering with a major player in the UK biogas market to source a Maintenance Engineer to cover the north Norfolk area.

Responsibilities and duties of the Maintenance Engineer



Reporting to the Plant Manager you will:

  • Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on all plant machinery and equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation faults.
  • Carry out first-line maintenance on pumps, valves, conveyors, digesters, shredders and associated plant equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Work collaboratively with operations staff to improve plant performance and efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records using the CMMS system.
  • Assist with plant modifications, upgrades, and improvement projects.
  • Respond to breakdowns and provide out-of-hours support if required.
  • Other duties as required




Professional qualifications


We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Previous experience performing electrical or mechanical maintenance ideally in water/sludge treatment, power generation, or industrial processing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, including motors, pumps, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Experience with PLC fault finding is desirable.
  • Fabrication and Welding experience is desirable.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Relevant engineering qualifications, such as an NVQ, HNC, HND, or degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
  • 17th/18th Edition Wiring Regulations (if electrically biased) is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

The Maintenance Engineer role would suit someone who is:

  • Initiative and proactive to help identify and possible plant improvements
  • Strong time management skills, prioritising planned preventative maintenance while handling reactive repairs.
  • Keen attitude towards building relationships with the operation team to work in conjunction with the operations team




Salary and benefits of the Maintenance Engineer role

  • Starting salary up to 42,500
  • 25 days annual leave plus 8 days bank holiday
  • Overtime paid at 1.5 x between Monday to Saturday and 2 x on Sunday
  • Annual bonus scheme
  • Call out paid at 4 hours minimum
