responsibilities/Managing Director/Chairman.

Scope and Purpose of Job:

Responsible for the day to day management of the Safety Department

Provide clear leadership for the development of a safe working environment for all Vogal Group employees and visitors

Responsible for providing strategic and dynamic leadership for Health

and Safety across all areas of the Vogal Group

Develop and implement health and safety best practice across the Vogal Group ensuring the company complies with all current Health and Safety legislation including Acts, Regulations, ACOPS, official guidelines and standards

Work proactively with all Directors and Managers to establish and maintain a programme of continual improvement in the management of Health and Safety within their areas of responsibility

Prepare and implement Health and Safety strategies and develop internal policy in conjunction with the Director with H&S responsibilities and the company Managing Director

Ensure all consultative documents/policies/procedures regarding Health & Safety are up to date and relevant changes notified to the Senior Management Team

Maintain ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001

Provide IOSH training

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To monitor, evaluate and review existing, new and upcoming changes to legislation to ensure that the Vogal Group has policies, documentation and systems in place to meet legal compliance.
  • Procure all relevant H & S and environmental documentation to ensure we are as well informed as possible.
  • Liaise with local HSE offices and EMAS on matters requiring specialist advice.
  • Carry out regular site visits and record Safety Checks/Audits and Behavioural Safety Discussions in line with company policy to ensure that company policies and procedures are implemented and adhered to.
  • Ensure that C/D’s, C/M’s, Supervisors and Safety leaders undertake and meet their target with regard to audits etc. in line with company policy.
  • Record attendance and topics of tool box talks and file/record all other TBT’s undertaken by C/D’s, CM’s and SV’s.
  • Ensure that C/D’s, C/M’s and SV’s undertake and meet their targets in relation to the above TBT’s.
  • Undertake and facilitate accident/incident, near miss investigations and complete a report to include route cause analysis, preventative measures, lessons learned etc.
  • To act as and undertake the rolls under the CDM Regs where requested and competent on works that are notifiable under the remit of the CDM Regs. Complete all duties undertaken by the CDM C in line with current legislation i.e. Apply for the F10, complete the Construction Phase Plan, create and update the CDM H&S file, chair CDM meetings, compile meeting minutes etc.
  • To act in an advisory role to Vogal Group CD’s and CM’s where Vogal will be acting as Principal Contractor on works that are notifiable under the CDM Regs.
  • Submit mandatory documentation to customers i.e. accident stats, COSHH assessments/information, training records together with trend analysis reports on a monthly basis.
  • Discuss with and offer advice to Directors and Contracts Managers regarding H & S implications of new work.
  • Support site quality standards and behavioural control.
  • Carry out periodic briefings/presentations to senior management in connection with H & S performances, legislations changes and any relevant quality issues.
  • Attend company and client safety meetings and disseminate relevant information to all relevant parties.
  • Communicate and consult with client H & S representatives.
  • Ensure vendor assurance records, in respect of H & S and quality for Sub-contractors are maintained.
  • Carry out in-house H & S training as required.
  • To act as mentor to Vogal Group apprentices. Attend review meetings on a quarterly basis. Effectively manage and maintain the “Apprenticeship Pipe line”. Ensuring apprentices regularly attend our training facility.
  • Undertake inductions for all employees ensuring a consistent delivery of information etc.
  • Write, develop and review RA/MS as required in conjunction with C/D’s, C/M’s and SV’s.
