Our client, a prominent player in the aerospace sector, is seeking a dedicated Stress Engineer to join their team in Fareham. This permanent, full-time position plays a key role in ensuring the structural integrity, durability, and safety of UAV systems, providing support through thorough analysis and collaboration across various teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Structural Analysis
- Perform hand calculations, finite element analysis (FEA), and other methods to evaluate the strength, stiffness, and fatigue life of structures and mechanisms.
- Assess composite, metallic, and hybrid structures for lightweight and durable design solutions.
- Support certification activities by generating stress reports, compliance documents, and supporting evidence.
- Vibration & Modal Analysis
- Conduct modal analyses to predict natural frequencies, mode shapes, and dynamic responses of airframes and subsystems.
- Perform vibration analyses (harmonic, random, and transient) to assess the impact of propulsion, aerodynamic loads, and operational environments.
- Define vibration test requirements and correlate analytical results with ground and flight test data.
- Support the mitigation of vibration-related issues such as resonance, fatigue, and component reliability.
- Integration & Collaboration
- Work closely with mechanical design engineers to optimize structures for weight, manufacturability, and performance.
- Collaborate with the Test and Flight Evaluation teams to define test campaigns, interpret data, and validate models.
- Provide feedback and design recommendations based on analysis results to guide design trade-offs and ensure system-level performance.
- Documentation & Compliance
- Produce clear, traceable stress analysis documentation to support design reviews and airworthiness certification.
- Ensure compliance with relevant aerospace standards and customer requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of analysis methods, tools, and processes.
Job Requirements:
- Experience in performing finite element analysis (FEA).
- Understanding of structural analysis and stress testing principles, particularly in the aerospace industry.
- Proficiency in vibration and modal analysis.
- Knowledge of composite and metallic materials and associated failure modes.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and meticulous documentation abilities.
- Collaborative mindset, working effectively across design, test, and certification teams.
- Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
