Location: Fareham, Hampshire
Department: Stores/Warehousing
Reports to: Warehouse Manager/Supply Chain Manager
Working Hours: 7.30am - 4.30pm Monday to Friday

12.21 - 13.68/hour

As part of our continued growth, we are seeking a dedicated and reliable Stores Operative to join our team and support the smooth operation of our stores and warehouse functions.

Position Overview:

The Stores Operative will be responsible for ensuring that all materials, parts, and equipment are accurately received, stored, and distributed to support the day-to-day operations of the engineering department. The successful candidate will play a key role in inventory management, ensuring stock levels are maintained, orders are processed efficiently, and materials are available for production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receiving & Checking Stock:
    • Unload deliveries and ensure that all received items match purchase orders and delivery notes.
    • Inspect items for damage or discrepancies and report any issues promptly.
  • Stock Management:
    • Accurately store materials, tools, and equipment in designated areas.
    • Keep inventory levels up-to-date and report low stock levels to the Warehouse Manager.
    • Conduct regular stock checks and assist with periodic stock takes.
  • Order Fulfillment:
    • Pick and pack items as required by the engineering team or production department.
    • Ensure all items are correctly labeled, packaged, and ready for dispatch or use.
  • Inventory Control:
    • Maintain an organized and efficient warehouse layout to optimize space and improve accessibility.
    • Use inventory management software to track stock levels and movements.
  • Health & Safety Compliance:
    • Ensure all materials are stored and handled in compliance with health and safety regulations.
    • Maintain a clean and safe working environment, adhering to company safety policies.
  • Administrative Support:
    • Assist with the preparation of delivery notes, stock reports, and other documentation as required.
    • Help maintain accurate records of goods receipts and dispatches.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Essential:
    • Previous experience in a stores or warehouse role, ideally within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
    • Knowledge of inventory management systems and processes.
    • Ability to operate forklifts, pallet trucks, and other warehouse equipment (training can be provided).
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Good communication and organizational skills.
    • Basic IT skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
  • Desirable:
    • Experience in an engineering or technical field.
    • Forklift Truck Licence (counterbalance).
    • Knowledge of materials and parts used in engineering or manufacturing.
