Position Overview:
The Stores Operative will be responsible for ensuring that all materials, parts, and equipment are accurately received, stored, and distributed to support the day-to-day operations of the engineering department. The successful candidate will play a key role in inventory management, ensuring stock levels are maintained, orders are processed efficiently, and materials are available for production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receiving & Checking Stock:
- Unload deliveries and ensure that all received items match purchase orders and delivery notes.
- Inspect items for damage or discrepancies and report any issues promptly.
- Stock Management:
- Accurately store materials, tools, and equipment in designated areas.
- Keep inventory levels up-to-date and report low stock levels to the Warehouse Manager.
- Conduct regular stock checks and assist with periodic stock takes.
- Order Fulfillment:
- Pick and pack items as required by the engineering team or production department.
- Ensure all items are correctly labeled, packaged, and ready for dispatch or use.
- Inventory Control:
- Maintain an organized and efficient warehouse layout to optimize space and improve accessibility.
- Use inventory management software to track stock levels and movements.
- Health & Safety Compliance:
- Ensure all materials are stored and handled in compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment, adhering to company safety policies.
- Administrative Support:
- Assist with the preparation of delivery notes, stock reports, and other documentation as required.
- Help maintain accurate records of goods receipts and dispatches.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Essential:
- Previous experience in a stores or warehouse role, ideally within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of inventory management systems and processes.
- Ability to operate forklifts, pallet trucks, and other warehouse equipment (training can be provided).
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Basic IT skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
- Desirable:
- Experience in an engineering or technical field.
- Forklift Truck Licence (counterbalance).
- Knowledge of materials and parts used in engineering or manufacturing.
