Manual Machinist / Tool Maker – 6-Month Temporary Contract
Fareham/Gosport area
Up to £21.71 p/h DOE and shift pattern

Duration: 6 Months

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Manual Machinist / Tool Maker to join our precision engineering team on a six-month temporary contract. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to complex aerospace manufacturing projects in a fast-paced and supportive environment.

 Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate manual machine tools, including Jig Bores, lathes, and mills.

  • Interpret and work from complex aerospace engineering drawings and specifications.

  • Produce and rework components to tight tolerances and surface finishes.

  • Perform in-process inspection using precision instruments (e.g., micrometres, verniers, bore gauges, height gauges, DTIs).

  • Carry out routine maintenance and cleaning of tools and machinery.

  • Accurately complete production and quality documentation.

  • Comply with all company health & safety and quality assurance procedures.

  • Collaborate with Quality and Manufacturing Engineering teams to meet design and customer standards.

Required Skills & Experience
  • Proven background as a Manual Machinist or Tool Maker in a precision engineering or aerospace setting.

  • Experience working with a range of materials and castings, particularly steels and aluminium.

  • Strong ability to read and interpret technical engineering drawings.

  • Familiarity with AS9100 standards (preferred).

  • Competent in using precision measuring tools and keeping accurate records.

  • Quality-driven with great attention to detail.

  • Flexible and proactive – able to work independently or as part of a team.

  • Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering (preferred).

Desirable
  • Previous experience in aerospace or high-precision manufacturing.

  • Understanding of lean manufacturing and 5S practices.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
