Senior Transport Planner

Bennett & Game are proud to be representing a well-established engineering consultancy with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality solutions across the UK development sector. Our client is seeking a Senior Transport Planner to join their Fareham office. With over 15 years in business and offices strategically located in the South, Central and Eastern regions, they provide transport, travel planning and civil engineering expertise to a diverse client base including housebuilders, land promoters, commercial developers and local authorities.

Their projects range from small residential schemes through to major mixed-use and strategic land allocations, offering exposure to a wide variety of developments. Role Overview

  • Write, check and occasionally approve technical reports such as Transport Assessments, Statements, Travel Plans and Technical Notes.
  • Prepare appeal documentation including Statement of Case and Statement of Common Ground.
  • Successfully manage schemes, including budget, timescales, and requesting additional fees where appropriate.
  • Liaise directly with clients, officers and highway authorities, representing the company at meetings, consultations and appeal hearings.
  • Provide guidance and training to junior colleagues.
  • Complete, review and approve planning drawing requirements such as visibility splays, tracking diagrams and access designs with minimal amendments.
  • Undertake junction modelling, trip generation/distribution analysis and apply the 'Decide and Provide' methodology.
  • Identify and design mitigation schemes to overcome highway, safety and active travel constraints.
  • Prepare fee proposals and tenders across all project scales.
  • Contribute to Section 106 obligation discussions.
  • Provide high-level initial feedback to clients and step in to support projects outside of your direct involvement when needed.

Requirements

  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Membership of a relevant professional organisation.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in transport planning.
  • Strong knowledge and application of national, regional and local policy and design guidance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft packages and transport modelling/junction assessment software.
  • Ability to manage your own workload, delegate tasks and provide guidance to colleagues.
  • Confidence to advise clients and provide feedback without reliance on full technical assessments.
  • Experience preparing appeal documentation and attending public consultations.
