We are seeking a Senior Accounts Payable Assistant to join our finance team. This role is crucial for managing the purchase ledger function, ensuring accurate and timely processing of invoices, payments, and reconciliations. The successful candidate will maintain supplier relationships, handle queries, and support various accounting tasks.  In addition the Accounts Assistant will take on various accounting tasks to support the Finance Manager including working on reconciliations. The role will develop over time and this person should want and be able to demonstrate an ambition for growth.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Invoice Processing: Register and post purchase invoices with high accuracy.
  • Supplier Account Management: Set up new supplier accounts and maintain existing account details.
  • Payment Runs: Coordinate monthly BACS and cheque payment runs.
  • Reconciliation: Perform supplier statement reconciliations and ensure alignment between aged creditors and purchase ledger control.  In addition will be responsible for Balance Sheet reconciliations.
  • Inter-company Tasks: Manage and coordinate inter-company accounting tasks.
  • Query Resolution: Act as the first point of contact for resolving supplier queries
  • Bank Transactions: Post bank payments and reconcile accounts.
  • Expense Management: Control staff expense claims and departmental recharging.
  • Year-End Preparation: Assist in the preparation of year-end accounts, including schedules for accruals, prepayments, and fixed asset additions.
  • Ad hoc: Working on undefined accounts tasks as allocated by Finance Manager

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a related role
  • Skills: Excellent organisational and communication skills, strong attention to detail, proficiency in Excel and accounting software.
  • Qualifications: Studying towards AAT examinations or at early stage of ACCA/CIMA (recent studiers only).
  • Systems skills: Netsuite preferred
